Small steps, surprising growth.

Example note · An interactive explanation of compound growth

If a quantity grows by the same percentage each day, each increase applies to the new total. That small difference adds up.

After 365 days, the starting value becomes 37.78 times as large.

Compound growth over 365 daysGrowth starts at one and accelerates as each increase applies to a larger total. The vertical scale updates with the growth rate. Day 0Day 365 1×38×
The vertical scale adjusts to fit the result. Compare the total, not only the shape.

Why it happens

Final value = starting value × (1 + daily rate)days

With a rate of 1%, each day multiplies the previous total by 1.01. After 365 days, that is 1.01365 ≈ 37.78.

This is a mathematical model. Learning and skill development do not grow at a constant measurable rate.
